Recent Dark Pattern Reviews

Recurring Fee reported on Dec 29, 2022
There are passes for each season. Players receive pearls with their subscription. Players receive bonus perks as well.
Optimism and Frequency Biases reported on Dec 29, 2022
In the team section, the game shows only victories made by your team, where the AFK point is, and good items your team receives. No losses are shown on this menu.
Competition reported on Dec 29, 2022
The map tells you how far ahead you are on the map compared to others. Hero Hill is about racing people. Announcements appear on screen relating to season events, including which players have won.
Fear of Missing Out reported on Dec 29, 2022
New events happen constantly in Ulala. Every week, something new is in store, sometimes for even a day.
Aesthetic Manipulations reported on Dec 29, 2022
Hero Souls and Pets are made cute and adorable, some even having personality attached in the form of animations or stories. This can persuade a player to spend starfish and pearls on potentially obtaining a certain soul or pet.
Anchoring Tricks reported on Dec 29, 2022
The Black Market has items on sale at the top, and is often randomized, putting cheap items like food ingredients nexts to gems, crystals, and spells.
Variable Rewards reported on Dec 29, 2022
Arena chests have hero souls, but none are ever consistent. Fighting Scar Bunnies yield different rewards, never quite the same. Chests are a key way the game hides rewards, and they appear daily.
Complete the Collection reported on Dec 29, 2022
Hero Souls have unique cumulative effects that improve the more players perform certain actions. Hero Souls are also small, cute, and come with silly stories attached to them. However, some are only obtainable from paying for advanced passes, or are otherwise extremely rare. Also, when certain hero souls are maxed out, some have a set bonus called a Bond. This gives players bonus effects.
Badges / Endowed Progress reported on Dec 29, 2022
Achievements are located in the manual. Some are ridiculous and luck-based, but all give the player rewards.
Gambling / Loot Boxes reported on Dec 29, 2022
Gacha events happen every so often. Players complete tasks to obtain gacha vouchers. However, these eventually stop being rewarded. Players are then forced to use pearls. Many shops accept pearls as currency for refreshing, especially in place of the scarce starfish.
