Recent Dark Pattern Reviews

Accidental Purchases reported on Sep 23, 2022
Easy to accidentally use premium currency. Not easy to actually spend money; there's always a few clickthroughs for that part. But it's easy to accidentally strip down your resources.
Competition reported on Sep 23, 2022
1 event every other week: competition battle; highest scorers get prizes. Getting to the mid-level of the leaderboard is necessary to get the Mega Stone to evolve the pokemon. The highest levels are only reachable with near-perfect maxed-out teams... or by cheating with hacks.
Fear of Missing Out reported on Sep 23, 2022
24-week cycle of events, plus some holiday events - if you take a break, you'll miss events that won't show up again for quite a while.
Aesthetic Manipulations reported on Sep 23, 2022
The music for each level is designed to make it feel like a fast-paced combat. Special-event lvels you haven't tried yet have a big animated exclamation point so you keep noticing them. Main route levels does not show you ones you haven't tried - you can only see their silhouettes.
Anchoring Tricks reported on Sep 23, 2022
Enhancement items are shown in a list, with cheap ones next to pricey ones - and a bundle available for premium currency.
Waste Aversion reported on Sep 23, 2022
Max of 5 "hearts" at a time; each allows 1 play, and they recharge every half hour. But if you spend $8/month, the max storage goes up to 7 - allowing you to play every 3.5 hours instead of every 2.5 to avoid wasting hearts.
Variable Rewards reported on Sep 23, 2022
When you defeat a level, you have a chance of catching that pokemon; if you've caught it, there's a random chance of getting a bonus reward.
Badges / Endowed Progress reported on Sep 23, 2022
There's "trainer" levels with prizes, including a small amount of premium currency, and "mission" quests that have prizes. Your profile pic background changes based on in-game accomplishments.
Reciprocity reported on Sep 23, 2022
You send "hearts" to allow more plays. No other sharable resources.
Gambling / Loot Boxes reported on Sep 23, 2022
Can spend premium currency for a "great ball" to get a better chance of catching a pokemon. Or, can spend premium currency to buy extra moves/extra time to defeat a level.
