They're the same rewards every day, which are used to get random presents that normally contain gems, rockets or hint tokens. No Sapphires. Rewards max out at 160, after that they convert into gems.
The only time the ads have felt intrusive was when I was unable to skip them. This happens rarely, and usually by the 2nd time I see the same ad it has a skip option.
Sapphires are the premium currency, but are not required to actually play the game in general. I started with I think 20 and still have 15 left after playing for several months.
I think you get gems for inviting friends but I never bothered doing it because gems are easy enough to get just by playing occasionally lol
I guess a daily popup saying "x event is happening!!" with a timer counts for this, but I've never personally felt pressured.
None of the following are REQUIRED to play the game, but the option to purchase is still there with typical "buy more, spend less" patterns present including bundles for currencies and in-game boosts.
There was a point where the game would pop up with a "Log in with Google Play" window, but I just ignored it due to not wanting it tied to my Google Account and now it doesn't ask anymore. Not sure if it has anything to do with the monetary purchases but it sure felt like it.
WoW club. No point buying into it. It's $4.99 CAD/week with negligible gem/rocket bonuses (that you can get by just playing the game in general) versus just spending $7.49 CAD once to remove ads and carry on.
The butterflies and other daily challenges feel like they could fall into this category, seeing as you get Gems as well as "free letters" for accomplishing them, but it's hardly intrusive to me personally.
Technically in the cash shop it does this, but it has yet to try to bully me into actually buying anything, "cheap" or otherwise.
