Some events that you need to do repetitive tasks to complete have a fortune cookie as their reward, which gives you a random item (the collection of which depends on the cookie, that much you know from its name and appearance.)

Especially if you don't want to spend real money, you'll have to complete events through repetitive tasks in order to get a rare item. You also get trophies based on whether you completed Fishing Tourney events, though those serve no purpose.
